I have noticed that more and more immigrants are thinking about creating their own business. Why? Maybe because it will give them the freedom to do what they want to do and achieve a career level they lost when leaving their country. You might think for days, even months before realizing you have THE idea. Then, you start dreaming: front page of Time’s magazine, entrepreneur of the year, meetings, conferences.. And you tell your friends about it, they like your idea, they motivate you. That’s it, you’re ready, you’re gonna do it, YOU WILL LAUNCH YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
So you start doing the steps of creating a business and you realise, they ask for permanent residency almost everywhere (name registration, financing, competitions). And you do not have it.. yet. So if you are thinking of starting your own business, you betta start thinking of your permanent residency first! As the process can be quite long (around a year) Here are my dates as an indicator (bearing in mind that each file is different and treatment length will differ in consequence) to help you plan this journey:
CSQ delivered (via Québec graduate program): October 2015 (20 days)

Federal to Sidney:

File sent: February, 5th 2016
File received: March, 24th 2016
File in treatment: March, 24th 2016
Medical visit: August, 8th 2016
So take the time to write your business plan, finance your future business and network while your permanent residency is in process. If you are lucky to have it, you will be well prepared and ready to start your business at YOUR OWN time.

And you, did you start your permanent residency before starting your own business?
