You have been thinking about starting your own business for days, months and even years but today, you are still stuck at the same old point. There could be many reasons: family, sickness, work opportunities… And as life goes on, travels go on, you still think about it and it is still in the back of your head: being an entrepreneur.

1. Do your own research

If you know you want to start your own business, it’s like buying a house or car, you need a minimum of planning. Why? To know what resources are out there to help you in the process. Think through your business idea and try to have a clear vision of what you have to do and how you have to do it to reach your objectives. You can also see among your friends if there is someone you could partner up with, you never know.
2. Create your own environment

If you are frustrated with your workplace and its environment, starting your own business can give you the flexibility to create your own business culture and practices that will fit your style. It would give you the chance to build something from scratch and be proud of it. And if you are passionate about your idea and eager to learn, your business will survive as long as you are ready to accept that you will face many setbacks. Because nothing works as planned and what matter the most will be your capacity to bounce back from difficult situations. And you will be surprised by how much you will learn and grow through failures.

For me, I wanted to start my own business because I could see that there was a gap between the needs and the services provided to a certain group (classic example). I could no longer bear this gap so I decided to act upon it to hopefully, make a change. It was also a desire to be heard and be more independent: handle my own schedule, be more flexible, set a business culture that would be positive for me and the people am working with.
3. Trust yourself

So you can have a thousand reasons why you might want to start your own business. What am trying to say is that no reason is better than yours if you are passionate about it. Your family can have its point of view, your workplace and colleagues can judge you, your background can tell you you’re not good enough but what matters is what YOU want for yourself and your company and how YOU will achieve it. Afterwards, you can get all the help you need to make it happen and motivate your network in your roller coaster, but fantastic life-learning journey.

And you, why did you decide to start your own business?
